Lyle SILVERTHORNE

SILVERTHORNE, Lyle Passed away peacefully at Grandview Lodge, Dunnville, on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, in his 94th year. Lyle is now reunited with his beloved wife Fanny (Shirton). Survived by his sister Evelyn Pogue, many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Sue. Predeceased by his parents Carman and Stella and two brothers Rae and John. Lyle was employed at Lundy's Steel for many years. He was well known for his singing and guitar playing at garden parties. Family and friends will be received at the BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME , 315 Broad St. E., Dunnville, on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Service to follow in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill. In lieu of flowers, donations to Welland Humane Society, would be appreciated.

And whereas the Administration of the Estate of the said grace Shirton deceased was granted to the said Grantor by the Surrogate Court of Lincoln County, on or about November 28, 1913
And whereas the lands hereinafter mentioned after having been duly advertised were offered for sale by Public Auction on January 20, 1914 when the above named Grantee was the highest bidder for and became the purchaser of said lands at the Price or sum of $2030.00
For - $ 2030.00 - 40 acres - composed of all that part of Lot # 15 in the Second Concession of said Caistor Township lying on the south side of the Welland River.
To have and to hold the same unto the said Grantee his heirs and assigns forever.
And the said parties of the Fourth Part wives of some of the said parties of the Second Parts aforesaid hereby bar their dower in the said lands.

Whereas the said Grace Shirton was at the time of her death seized of an estate of inheritance in fee simple in the lands hereinafter described; and died on or about April 28, 1908, Intestate and leaving her surviving the above named Grantor as her lawful husband, the said Ebenezer Laidlaw as her only lawful brother and the said parties of the Third part other than the said Ebenezer Laidlaw, as her only lawful nephews and nieces, and being all the next of kin and heirs and heiresses at law of the said Grace Shirton, deceased
And whereas the Administration of the Estate of the said grace Shirton deceased was granted to the said Grantor by the Surrogate Court of Lincoln County, on or about November 28, 1913
And whereas the lands hereinafter mentioned after having been duly advertised were offered for sale by Public Auction on January 20, 1914 when the above named Grantee was the highest bidder for and became the purchaser of said lands at the Price or sum of $2030.00
For - $ 2030.00 - 40 acres - composed of all that part of Lot # 15 in the Second Concession of said Caistor Township lying on the south side of the Welland River.
To have and to hold the same unto the said Grantee his heirs and assigns forever.
And the said parties of the Fourth Part wives of some of the said parties of the Second Parts aforesaid hereby bar their dower in the said lands.

Moffatt_WillisAt Ridgeview Long Term Care in Stoney Creek on Sunday, November 9, 2014, Willis Malcolm Moffatt passed away in his 88th year.
Beloved husband of the late Faye Moffatt (1998).
Loving father of Kathy Reid (David), Donna Santarossa (Erwin Jahnke), Donald Moffatt (Cathy), Wendy Moffatt, Ruth Moffatt (Jim Howden), Roy Moffatt and also Debbie Ruhloff.
Cherished grandfather of Nicole Dufour (Vince), Joel Santarossa, Aaron and Lauren Jahnke, Mary Reid, Kyle Moffatt (Jennifer), Kevin, Kris and Kelly Moffatt, and Charlotte, James, Rachael and Kate Moffatt, and of 8 great grandchildren.
Also survived by his sister Laverda Donovan and sister-in-law Carol Halliday.
Predeceased by parents Lorris and Mary Moffatt, brother-in-law Murray Donovan, brother Ray Moffatt, sister-in-law Dorothy Moffatt, and grandchildren Joshua Moffatt and Ester Reid. He will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Willis trucked for over 50 years and lived on and ran the family farm his whole life in Grassie, Ontario.
The funeral service will be held in Smithville on Friday, November 14th with interment at Grimsby.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ridgeview Long Term Care Centre where he has been living since January 2009.
A great lover of animals, memorial donations to your local SPCA or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Victim of Methuen house fire identified

METHUEN, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say the woman who died in an early morning house fire in Methuen was the daughter of a late city firefighter.

The victim of the blaze spotted by a patrolling police officer at about 3:30 a.m. Monday was identified by authorities as 50-year-old Lisa Shirton.

Neighbors say Shirton lived alone in the 19th century home.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, but it appears electrical in nature and is not considered suspicious.

The fire started in the same room where the victim was found. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the second fatal house fire in the city this year. An elderly couple died in a February fire.
